Meet Dr Marcus Verhagen and get an up-close experience of our Master’s program in contemporary art as taught in our London campus. This session will include a lecture by Dr Verhagen and a study visit to a top contemporary art commercial gallery in London.
Join Dr Verhagen for a lecture on contemporary art to be delivered at the Institute, followed by a study visit to a world-class contemporary art gallery in London. Get a taste of what you will learn during the MA program, develop skills of observation and description and explore how themes are connected with artistic contexts and the networks in which art is created, bought, collected and exhibited.
Dr Verhagen earned a PhD in art history from the University of California at Berkeley, and a BA from Cambridge University. Initially specialising in French art of the nineteenth century, he concentrated on the response of the fin-de-siècle avant-gardes to the rise of mass culture. For over ten years now he has been working primarily on the art of the present. His current research revolves mostly around globalisation and the efforts of artists to examine its effects. He has recently published articles on the border as a concern in recent art, on the figure of the tourist as a model for the travelling artist and on video as a means of examining changing experiences of time that have come in the wake of globalisation.
