Sotheby's Institute of Art is pleased to announce that our MA in Contemporary Art (MACA) program is partnering with Camden Arts Centre to organize a series of talks titled Temporalities. For their talks, speakers will examine artistic practices considering contemporary notions of time and duration.

The series will launch on February 21 with a talk by writer and editor Filipa Ramos. Ramos will reflect on the connection between the invention of cinematic time and the advent of capitalist modernity, considering how cinema and labour have been intertwined for over a century.

Future talks will look in particular at the accelerated rhythms of the modern workplace, the pace of digital communications, the impulse to slow down or waste time—and at art as a means of exploring new cadences and their effects on our lives. With contributors like Ramos, a compelling voice in current debates around the moving image, the series will expose MA students to cutting-edge thinking on one of the most widely discussed issues in the world of contemporary art.

The MACA program in London has long had a connection with Camden Arts Centre. Students frequently visit and use the gallery as a blueprint for curatorial exercises. It also served as the site for the book launch of MA Program Director Marcus Verhagen's Flows and Counterflows: Globalisation in Contemporary Art. The gallery is admired in the UK and internationally for a consistently innovative exhibition program and for the quality of its educational activities. This series of talks will cement our connection with it.
