Giovanni Aloi is an author, curator, and educator specializing in the histories of collecting and the representation of nature in art. He studied History of Art and Art Practice in Milan and moved to London in 1997 to further his studies at Goldsmiths University where he obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Art History, a Master in Visual Cultures, and a Ph.D. on the subject of natural history in contemporary art. Aloi also owns an MA in education from UCL in London. He taught art history at Queen Mary University, Roehampton University, and Goldsmiths University. He currently teaches at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Sotheby’s Institute of Art. He has curated exhibitions in the US and abroad, contributes to BBC radio programs, and is involved in museum education programs at the Art Institute of Chicago. His work has been translated into Italian, Chinese, French, Russian, Polish, and Spanish. Aloi is the founder and Editor in Chief of Antennae: The Journal of Nature in Visual Culture, the co-editor for the University of Minnesota Press book series ‘Art after Nature’, and USA correspondent for Esse Magazine.
