Ling-Yun Tang

Ling-Yun Tang is a cultural sociologist with a focus on art markets and a regional specialization in Asia. Her research projects have included a study of Hong Kong art collectors and their role in the globalization of Chinese art. Currently she is researching the history of 20th century painting and modernity in Taiwan through the lens of the island’s colonial and martial law history. She has previously consulted for the Department of Development at the Freer-Sackler at the Smithsonian Institution, and has work experiences in a commercial art gallery in Beijing and at Sotheby’s auction house in New York. She has taught as an assistant professor the University of Hong Kong, and also lectures about Asian contemporary art at Christie’s Education in New York.
