  • Career Services

    Career Services

The Sotheby’s Institute Career Services office provides all of our Master’s degree students with customized support in their internship and job search needs, including cover letter and resume writing, interview preparation, and alumni network connections. Career Services also help facilitate potential internship and job opportunities at major art companies and organizations, such as Sotheby’s, Phillips, Gurr Johns, Winston Art Group, Gagosian Gallery, Paul Kasmin Gallery, Pace Gallery, Hirschl & Adler, Winter Antiques Show, The Armory Show, and TEFAF. Through the Career Services office, students receive access to:

    • Series of workshops to support students’ success in securing job/internships opportunities. Topics include: Developing Tools to Marketing Yourself Effectively, Networking, Recruitment Practices, and Making the Most of Your Internship Opportunity.

    • Opportunities to network with our global alumni population through Alumni Panels, Alumni-Student Networking Events, and Employer Roundtables / Career Fairs.

    • One-on-one confidential and impartial sessions with our experienced Career Directors customized to meet each student’s individualized needs – whether they are art career starters or re-focusing their career into the art world.

    • Access to SIAconnect, our online job portal where students and alumni can find job and internship opportunities. This site currently has over 1,000 employers registered with an average of 1,000 opportunities advertised each academic year.

  • Internships And Placement

    Internships And Placement

Sotheby’s Institute of Art encourages eligible students and graduates to participate in internships, and provides the tools to aid in the search. Thanks to our privileged relationship and access, students are notified of internship opportunities at Sotheby’s auction house worldwide. Career services also provide internship information and guidance for students seeking placements at other international auction houses, galleries, museums, art publications, public art spaces, online art market platforms, and other art-related organizations.

    • The Work Placement (accredited internship) elective unit offers students experiential learning in an art-related work environment. The principle of this approach is that employability is enhanced if work experience is embedded within a rigorous, assessed academic curriculum. Placement opportunities are both brokered by The Institute and sourced directly by students, subject to approval.

    • Students in their third semester can take Internships for Credit as an elective. The internship elective affords students the opportunity to engage in an experiential learning opportunity within an art world setting that is aligned with their career goals, while fulfilling an elective requirement. As students gain practical experience and skills at their selected internship site, they will also be expected to reflect on and evaluate their experience throughout the course, as well as articulate their understanding of the internship site’s focus, mission, and position in the art market.

  • Prospective Students

At Sotheby’s Institute we have the resources to help you consider the wealth of career options open to you, market yourself effectively for the art world, network, and find jobs and internships that will be a good fit for your talents.
